Celebration of Puerto Rican and Latino Culture

PHILADELPHIA- A girl held her mother's hand as they marched in the 44th Regional Puerto Rican Day Parade, held on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006. Music filled the streets of Center City and even Mickey Mouse paraded, waving a Puerto Rican flag. Performers, including dancers and musicians from across the tri-state area paraded down Market Street, after beginning the celebration at 21st Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway at 11:45 a.m. A sudden rainstorm did not damper the morale of those marching or for the expected 5,000 parade-goers. The parade was televised by WPVI-TV Channel 6, Phildelphia’s ABC affiliate; which broadcasted the festivites to an estimated 60,000 viewers.

Christina,

I liked your images from the Puerto Rican parade. It conveyed the overall message of unification of Puerto Ricans within Philly. Perhaps you could improve your composition techiques in order to make your images stronger.

Christina--
I loved how you used the Puerto Rican flag to carry through each of the shots. Maybe getting in closer and tighter would help you focus on individual faces of kids? Loved the color in all them, too!

The first photo is really strong, i like how the hair and the flag are both blowing. I would try to be more selective when choosing photos and use less.

I really liked the first photo too, they were blowing nicely together. Your closer shots were the better ones.

Christina,

I think your best shot is the top one of the little girl. It's sharp and tight and the colors work really well. BUT...My favorite shot is the one you took of the cheerleaders. I think it's a great action shot, and it's a lot of fun. You got right in there. You just need to sharpen it a bit and make the image a tiny bit less blurred. A faster shutter speed might be the trick.
